Over the course of 2024, conversations with three different people included these observations:
– I don’t have time to learn about Nature with so many other pressures in my life
– I don’t know what to DO in nature
– We tried to learn the plants using an app but nothing sticks – it doesn’t mean anything

“It felt like I was seeing the trees for the first time. I have a new appreciation for the ones on my road!”
Harrie
When we speak of nature, our thoughts often fly to ‘out there’ – to wildest moors and deepest forest. But I’m convinced that we need to begin with what’s on our doorstep – let our eyes open to the world in the tiny 5 minute slots when we pause for a cuppa (imagine if we drank it on our doorstep), hang out the laundry or walk back from dropping the kids off.

“It has shown me the park, not only as a place for sports / children but as a space to come closer to other species”
Naya
I lead regular Creative Nature Bimbles through the green spaces in Heavitree exploring connections with people, place and nature in different ways. These strolls are a bit experimental and invite participants to help shape the content by bringing a contribution. They include mindfulness, plant identification, wordplay, art, foraging, singing and so on, and bring together varied members of the community through a shared curiosity to know our spaces differently.

“I suddenly feel as if there are adventures to be had on my doorstep. The whole thing is an exercise in gratitude and wonder.”
Micha
Walks are for adults, whatever your experience (or lack of!) of nature. They are a gift to my community, but a £5 contribution helps to support their organisation, planning and resourcing. Due to small group sizes, please let me know you’re coming, along with any access needs, and do your best to turn up!

“I loved that the group was inter-generational and that it was an opportunity to mix with people I wouldn’t normally cross paths with.”
Hannah
